St. Petersburg, Russia vs homophobia
March 7, 2012, the governor of St. Petersburg, Georgiy Poltavchenko,
signed the homophobic law banning so-called “propaganda of
sodomy, lesbianism, bisexualism and transgenderism, and pedophilia to
minors.”Governor Poltavchenko’s failure to use his right
of veto to stop this deplorable legislative initiative is profoundly
disappointing. The prosecutor’s office of St. Petersburg should
use its authority to insist that the city legislative assembly annul
the law The prosecutor’s office should indicate that if the law
is not annulled, they will refer the case to the Constitutional Court
of the Russian Federation “

What can I say? First of all let me APOLOGIZE for this (as Madonna called it) “ridiculous atrocity” for the Russian officials. They should be apologizing for their ridiculous manifestation of savagery, not me, but due to a brain fever (the only possible explanation for their actions) allow me to do so because, unfortunately, we live in the same city.
It is a shame upon St. Petersburg and our entire country to have such cultureless, paranoid officials and legislators who can’t discern the differences between a pedophile and a gay man or woman. SHAME ON THEM to publically share their idiotic views and then make them into a law. It’s funny and sad at the same time… I guess it’s again the Socialist revolution of 1917 to blame. Reds have been gone for years, but their flat and infernal backward thinking mentality still exists in the brains of their descendants (and what’s even worse in their genes).
Please do not think many Russians support such draconian, homophobic laws. Me, all my relatives (including Grandma!), friends and colleagues, and millions of other Russians are AGAINTS this law and hope it will be overturned.
Many people all over the world are shocked by this law and encourage others to place a travel embargo on St. Petersburg, Russia. We understand the intention but, it is not acceptable. Do not allow a handful of Russian homophobics (who made this law just to use as a tool in their dirty election race) deprive you of pleasure of exploring our amazing city which is definitely worth visiting. I implore you: travel to St. Petersburg; let’s face and fight this madness all together!!
Even though I have a traditional sexual orientation, I have many foreign and local friends with different sexual views. Each individual has the human right / free choice to live and love the way they choose. Along with many other people on this planet I hate all kinds of discrimination and don’t understand why a small group of miss guided officials has the right to tell millions of people how they should live and behave!
There is NO WAY for this ridiculous law to work in St. Petersburg!
As was her great Grandmother, my great Grandmother was a native citizen of this city.
I remember her teaching us timeless good manners and historical traditions of St. Petersburg, which at that time were a must to follow. Here is one of them: “If a stranger is knocking your door, you should open the door, greet and invite him to take a seat at your table, then you should feed the stranger and only after he is done with dessert, you may ask his name”
How do you like it? Many years have passed and the City has changed but gratefully many St. Petersburgers still remember, practice , and teach their children those golden rules of hospitality in the cultural capital of Russia.
You are WELCOME to St. Petersburg, in spite of your religion, sexual orientation, skin color, political views, clothing size, favorite cuisine, or anything else which makes us all so UNIQUE and BEAUTIFUL!!!!! (and the haters so cowardly, narrow-minded and permanently miserable)
PS: By the way please send a delegation of a few good psychiatrists to our City; we really need their assistance due to a few really strange cases we have here (described above in the beginning of this message)
From Russia with LOVE!
Sincerely yours Alex Polenov
